You board your flight and travel to Oslo, where you continue to the harbour to board the ship.

Exploring the capital of Norway
Welcome to Norway. Your first stop is the vibrant capital, Oslo.

If time allows before boarding, explore the charm of this cosmopolitan city. Visit the city centre and take photos of the distinctive Oslo City Hall, the Royal Palace, and Oslo Cathedral.

As afternoon turns into evening, you board the ship. After a welcome on board and time to settle into your cabin or suite, you will meet the Coastal Experience Team. Throughout the journey, the team hosts talks and organises activities, giving you insight into the destinations along the route.

Meet fellow travellers in the ship’s two-level panoramic lounge and watch the lights of Oslo fade into the distance.

Settle in at sea

Now it is time to settle into your cabin, enjoy a first taste of Norway Coastal Kitchen in the ship’s restaurants and bar, and begin getting to know your fellow travellers.

There is also time to simply watch the spectacular southern coastline of Norway pass by. Take in the views from the observation deck, the two-level lounge and bar, or the panoramic sauna.

Fjord views and city life

Wake up to views of the beautiful Lysefjord. This 42-kilometre fjord is home to one of the most famous sights in Norway: Preikestolen, rising 604 metres above the water.

At the end of the fjord, Kjerag reaches even higher. Along the way, look out for mountain goats, waterfalls, and the famous boulder Kjeragbolten.

The rest of the day is spent mainly in Stavanger, a colourful coastal city with an international atmosphere and a vibrant cultural scene. Explore the historic area of Old Stavanger, known for one of the best-preserved collections of wooden houses in northern Europe, as well as the oldest cathedral in Norway, dating back to the 12th century.

You can also visit the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, browse local shops, or enjoy a drink along the waterfront.

A picturesque coastal city

By mid-morning, the ship arrives in Ålesund, a town spread across a chain of small islands.

Many of the buildings feature Art Nouveau architecture, popular in the early 20th century, with light colours and rounded towers. From the viewpoint at Mount Aksla, you can capture panoramic views of the islands and the surrounding sea.

You can also visit the Atlantic Sea Park, a leading marine research centre in Norway and one of the largest saltwater aquariums in northern Europe. Here, you can see seals, otters, crabs, and a wide range of marine life. The aquarium is also home to Humboldt penguins, a species not usually found this far north.

Join an optional excursion to explore Ålesund on foot or by bus, while a guide shares stories and insights about the city.

A historic fishing village

The charming fishing harbour of Rørvik, located in the scenic Vikna archipelago, may appear small, yet it holds a rich history reflected in both the landscape and local museums.

Here, you can join an optional excursion and travel through 10,000 years of history. Discover glacial landscapes, preserved interiors from the 19th century, and the innovation behind salmon production in Norway, all presented across three well-curated museums.

In the afternoon, the journey continues north through Vikna, a region made up of around 6,000 islands, islets, and reefs. In spring, gardens feature blooming plum and apple trees, even at 65 degrees north, thanks to the coastal climate.

As the ship sails through the night, you leave the Helgeland Coast and cross the Arctic Circle.

Gateway to the Arctic

This lively city, located 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, offers a vibrant mix of trendy restaurants, cafés, and shops selling local crafts, produce, and even high-end fashion. The ship stays here for eight hours, giving you plenty of time to join optional excursions and explore the city.

You can visit the Polar Museum, which presents the history of Arctic hunting and trade in Tromsø. Another highlight is Polaria, an Arctic experience centre with aquariums featuring marine species such as seals. Across the fjord, you will see the iconic Arctic Cathedral, known for its striking architecture and colourful stained-glass windows.

Tromsø is a destination many travellers dream of visiting. Optional excursions include dog sledding through snowy landscapes or guided bus tours that offer insight into life in this Arctic city.

The northernmost point

With arrival early in the morning, you have a full day in Honningsvåg. Far north, winters are long and snowfall is abundant, so be prepared for striking winter landscapes and seasonal activities.

Feel the snow under your feet on a snowshoe walk across open terrain with the Coastal Experience Team. Optional excursions include ice fishing, a well-known winter tradition in northern Norway. You can also taste a local delicacy, king crab, caught in the waters around Honningsvåg and served year-round.

The highlight of any visit to Honningsvåg is a trip to the North Cape, with views over the Barents Sea (also available as an optional excursion). This location is one of the northernmost points in Europe, and during winter, it is even possible to reach it by snowmobile.

After reaching the northernmost point of the journey, the ship turns south in the evening.

The city of the Northern Lights

Located at 70 degrees north, this city lies far above the Arctic Circle. The area is especially known for excellent chances to see the Northern Lights, so keep your camera ready.

On an optional excursion, you can learn more about everyday life in Alta, see prehistoric rock carvings, and visit the Northern Lights Cathedral, which highlights the role of Alta as a centre for early research on the Northern Lights in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Heavy snowfall in winter creates ideal conditions for authentic Arctic experiences such as dog sledding. In snow-free periods, similar tours can take place on wheels. The climate and snow conditions in Alta also make it possible to build and maintain the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. Located along the Altafjord, the hotel is constructed from around 250 tons of ice and is considered the northernmost ice hotel in the world, decorated with ice sculptures and carvings.

An alpine town by the fjord

After arrival in the town centre in the morning, you can explore Åndalsnes, a scenic coastal town located by Isfjord, at the end of Romsdalsfjord.

The mountains rising above the town are the main highlight of Åndalsnes. The surrounding fjords make this area one of the most popular destinations in Norway for hiking, climbing, skiing, and outdoor activities. Trollveggen, a vertical rock face of around 1,000 metres in Romsdal Valley, attracts adventure seekers from around the world.

Discover the area on a guided walk and enjoy a ride on the Romsdal Gondola, which takes you to the top of Nesaksla, 708 metres above sea level. From here, take in panoramic views of Romsdalshorn, the town centre of Åndalsnes below, and the Rauma River.

Beautiful Bergen

The former capital Bergen, surrounded by seven mountains and the sea, is one of the most picturesque and historic cities in Norway and the second largest in the country.

Take a walk through the harbour district of Bryggen, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore colourful wooden houses dating back to the 14th century. The well-known fish market in Bergen is also worth a visit. It offers a lively experience with the sights, sounds, and aromas of fresh fish and seafood prepared on site.

One of the most popular attractions in Bergen is the Fløibanen funicular, which takes you to the top of Mount Fløyen. From the summit, enjoy views over the city, nearby fjords, and surrounding mountain peaks.

The city of lighthouses

The final afternoon of the journey is spent in Kristiansand, the fifth-largest city in Norway, located at the southern tip of the country.

Kristiansand is working towards becoming one of the most sustainable ports in Europe. Learn more about this initiative on an optional excursion that includes a visit to Odderøya.

You can also explore the military history of Kristiansand from the 20th century on an optional excursion to Batterie Vara, originally built as a German fort during World War II and home to one of the largest land-based cannons in the world.
