Train journey from Belfast to Dublin

After breakfast, the journey begins at Belfast Lanyon Place Station, a central station in the capital of Northern Ireland. The train, known as the Enterprise, offers a comfortable and efficient ride as it leaves the city and enters the Irish countryside.

Soon after departure, the scenery changes to rolling hills, green fields, and small villages that characterise rural Ireland.

The first part of the route follows Belfast Lough, a large inlet leading into the Irish Sea. The train runs close to the coast, offering views of waves, beaches, and small harbour towns such as Holywood and Bangor.

As the journey continues inland, you pass through towns like Newry, close to the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. From here, the landscape opens into farmland with grazing sheep and cattle, divided by traditional stone walls.

After approximately two hours, you arrive at Dublin Connolly Station, centrally located in the capital of Ireland. From here, you can easily explore the city or continue your journey onward.

Dublin, the largest city in Ireland, combines culture, history, and lively urban life. Here you can explore major sights and enjoy the city’s many cafes, restaurants, and pubs. Walk through cobbled streets and visit the famous pubs with live music in the Temple Bar district. The area also features shops with clothing and art from local designers. Cultural highlights include the National Photographic Archive, Project Arts Centre, and the Temple Bar Gallery.

The city also offers peaceful parks and historic buildings. Take a boat tour along the River Liffey, which stretches for 125 kilometres, and enjoy views of wildlife, plant life, and the city’s many bridges.

Visit the Guinness Storehouse, a brewery museum where you can learn about Ireland’s famous beer and enjoy a tasting. On the rooftop, there is a bar with panoramic views of the city.

Another highlight is Kilmainham Gaol, a former prison turned museum. A guided tour gives insight into Ireland’s history and the atmosphere within its walls.

For dinner, try traditional Irish Stew made with lamb, potatoes, carrots, and onions, accompanied by a glass of Guinness.

Train journey from Dublin to Galway

Depart from Dublin Heuston Station and travel west through the heart of Ireland. As you leave the busy city behind, the landscape quickly opens into green fields, small villages, and peaceful countryside. Soon, you pass suburban areas and enter the rural scenery that defines Ireland, with farmland, stone walls, and traditional houses visible from the train.

Along the way, the route passes through Kildare, known for its open plains and horse breeding. The journey continues through rolling hills and small towns that reflect the classic Irish landscape. Near the midpoint, in Athlone, the train crosses the River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland, offering wide views of the surrounding nature.

After Athlone, the scenery becomes more varied. Hills grow higher, and you may see small lakes and wooded areas that add contrast to the green surroundings. This part of the journey feels calm and scenic as the train moves through the countryside.

After approximately 2.5 hours, you arrive at Galway Station, located in the centre of this charming city on the west coast of Ireland. Galway is known for its lively atmosphere, colourful buildings, and cultural character. From here, you can explore Connemara, the Atlantic coast, and the Aran Islands.
