Train journey to Naples, Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii

The day starts with a train journey from Denmark to Hamburg with DSB. You travel with IC3 or German IC1 carriages, and there is no onboard catering on the journey to Hamburg.

In Hamburg, you change to Europe’s new night train, which takes you towards the Alps and Innsbruck in Austria.

From Naples, there is a regional train to Pompeii, located approximately 25 kilometres southeast of Naples.

The ruins of Pompeii, preserved after the city was buried under around 6 metres of ash and pumice from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, can easily fill an entire day. Explore the archaeological site with its houses, temples and public buildings, offering a unique insight into ancient history. Pompeii was rediscovered in 1748, after having remained buried for nearly 1,700 years. Herculaneum is another ancient city that was also destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius.

From Pompeii, the journey continues back to Naples, where you board the high-speed Frecciarossa train to Rome. A private transfer is arranged from the train station in Rome to the airport, where your flight departs to either Billund or Copenhagen Airport.
